DHP Scotland delivers free courses for aspiring self-employed and business starters under the Training for Work programme on behalf of Skills Development Scotland and JobCentre Plus.

Business Start-up

Overview:

Our courses are designed to help you, if you are in receipt of benefits, to start your own business. Working through a series of specifically designed modules, with support from your personal Business Advisor, you will gain an understanding of all aspects of being self employed including marketing, legislation/regulations, book-keeping and basic taxation.

Course Benefits:

  • Intensive support from a tailored programme
  • First-class business start-up training
  • Assistance in accessing business funding and resources, where available
  • If appropriate to your circumstances, test trading without loss of benefits
  • Assistance with benefits and financial advice
  • Eligibility Criteria:

    Applicants must be in receipt of benefits and meet one of the following:

  • claiming Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) for 13 weeks or more
  • receiving health related benefits (Incapacity Benefit or Employment Support Allowance)
  • Are a lone parent
  • Have recently been made redundant
  • Course Duration:

    The course runs for an initial period of 13 weeks but this can be shortened/extended depending on your needs. Meetings with your personal Business Advisor take place once a week.

    Course Location:

    Courses are run in Ayrshire; Borders; Dumfries & Galloway; Dunbartonshire; Edinburgh & Lothian; Forth Valley and Glasgow
